Summat's Got To Give
Posted by southstander on February 24 2006 - 09:04:56

Whose Run?

It's one of those nights where something has got to give.

The Rhinos pay a visit to Knowsley Road on the back of an impressive comeback win against the Warriors, and sporting a 100% record. They take on a Saints side who have been scoring points for fun, and who are sitting on top of the pile.

By nine-thirty tonight, one of these sides will have suffered their first defeat of the season, and the bookies think it will be Leeds.

Tony Smith has been forced into a change with Lee Smith still suffering from the injury that he picked up at the JJB. Young Danny Williams gets a baptism of fire as he enters the Leeds thirteen for what is always a massive challenge. with this exception it is, as you were, with the only deabte being whether Scruton or Feather will get the last spot on the bench. My money would be on Feather, I think that Nick failed to impress his coach last week.

Daniel Anderson has a pretty decent squad to select from. Paul Anderson moves into the side in place of the injured Nick Fozzard (so the lads should be safe from padded forearms to the throat). The Saints eighteen is; Wellens, Gardner, Lyon, Talau, Meli, Pryce, Long, Cayless, Cunningham, P. Anderson, Gilmour, Sculthorpe, Hooper, Fa’asavalu, Roby, Graham, V. Anderson, Wilkin. In anyones books, that is a pretty awesome looking side, and it is a massive ask for the Rhinos to grab the points.

Daniel Anderson has expressed his concern about the influence of Danny McGuire, so expect him to get marked out of the game. One thing is for sure, if we let Saints get a roll on, they have the firepower to score themselves out of reach very quickly. On the other hand, if we can control them defensively, they quickly get frustrated, and their crowd can turn on them quickly.

The last time that we visited Knowsley Road was in the Grand Final first eliminator last season where we emerged triumphant with a 19-16 win to force the Minor Premiers to play the Bulls in the final eliminator, incidentally, Klein officiated that day too. That loss will still be hurting and we can expect some retribution. Our other visit saw us lose after we let them get on one of their famous rolls.

Three Saints to watch;

'Ten Ton'

One massive unknown tonight is the appointment of Ashley Clown as match official. We know from bitter experience that this numpty can effect the outcome of a game, and if he decided that tonight is not our night, then we've got no chance. Hopefully he'll have a better, and fairer game.

I have a bad feeling about this one, and I'm going for a Saints win. Hopefully the lads can prove me wrong and come home with the spoils. Prediction
Saints 26 18 Rhinos

With both sides sporting 100% records, this is the game that everyone wants to see this weekend. Availability on SKY...from the warmth of your own living room, may well avoid the 'FULL HOUSE' notices from going up.

Any rain is forcast is for a chilly night, but the snow and rain should miss us. Looks like scarf, hat and glove weather...especially for those of us feeling our age!

There are just a few more hours to get your predictions in in the tipping competition.
