Robbie Ward to Debut Against FC
Posted by southstander on May 23 2014 - 12:15:05

Briscoe Returns
There is a two-wheeled mode of transport in need of remounting.

We were outsmarted and outmuscled in last weekends Saturday Night Shootout at Manchester Magic, but at the end of the day it was just two points and we ended the weekend still at the top of the pile thanks to a Saints capitulation at the hands of Warrington Wolves.

The perfect antidote should be a home game against strugglers Hull FC, but FC always raise their game and this may not be the walk in the park that we're hoping for.

We preview the game, read more here...

The gaffa has rung the changes as he continues to experiment, and why not. Robbie Ward is likely to make his debut at hooker which means Sinfield returning to stand-off. Jamie Peacock is left out with an injury (rested?) and Kallum Watkins and Tom Briscoe (taking on his old side) are both recalled, the obvious casualty likely to be Jones-Bishop who had a disappointing Magic.

We've managed to avoid the injury desolation currently being experienced by some sides and it is nice that McDermott feels that he can blood another youngster in a game which is by no means a walkover.

The seventeen will be chosen from the nineteen of; Hardaker, Jones-Bishop, Watkins, Moon, Hall, McGuire, Leuluai, Ablett, Sinfield, S Ward, Delaney, Bailey, Kirke, Clarkson, Achurch, Briscoe, Sutcliffe, Singleton and R Ward. I've gone beyond trying to guess the bosses line-ups but I'd be amazed if Jones-Bishop gets a game.

Lee Radford's Hull FC are without former Rhino Gareth Carvell but can call on the services of new arrival Setaimata Sa, the ex-Dragon who has signed from London Irish RU. Jason Crookes is missing after his red card indiscretion at the Etihad Stadium but Ben Crooks is fit to return from injury.

The FC nineteen is named as; Bowden, Crooks, Colbon, Ellis, Hadley, Heremaia, Horne, Houghton, Miller, Paea, Paleaaesina, Rankin, Sa, Shaul, Talanoa, Thompson, Watts, Westerman, and Yeaman. So just the one ex-Rhino in the FC ranks, South Stand favourite Gareth Ellis.

This is the first 2014 encounter between the two sides with the return fixture at the KC Stadium being the Rhinos last of the regular season. Last year the Rhinos won the game at Headingley by 36-6 while losing the away match, the last game between the sides, by 6-18.

Since the start of Superleague the Rhinos have won regular season encounters between the two sides on twenty-five occasions with ten losses and a single drawn game. Prediction
Rhinos 42 12 FC

The bookies have given the Warriors an eight point start on the coupon, double their start a fortninght ago. Once again I think that they are pretty close to the mark. It should be another belter in front of a big live and TV audience who have spent the afternoon gorging on the other FC have been given a sixteen point start on the coupon as the bookies show their lack of face in the Airlie Birds. The Rhinos are massive odds-on to win the game at 1/9 but you can get 11/2 on FC of your are feeling brave.

The forecast is for sporadic rain up to, and beyond, kick-off and with temperatures in the low teens at kick-off the weather could be a leveller.

I'm not able to get to the game so we'll have a guest report tomorrow from one of the regulars.
