The Damo Bit - 12th April 2011
Posted by southstander on April 12 2011 - 08:19:26

After a week off our Damo is back and firing on all cylinders.

There is one last great hope to rescue our Superleague XVI and Damo tells you who it is.

Apart from a couple of games, so far this season I have seen a Leeds side that has raised the white flag. It is sad to see that this particular set of players is squandering and surrendering what should be a dignified legacy for all those who contributed to the success in recent years. Itís a fall from grace, and as weeks go by itís looking less likely that this season will culminate in euphoric bliss. Youíd think that Leeds Rhinos were survivors from the battle of Dunkirk rather than rugby league players. The longevity of the season certainly seems to be draining them like a war.

Iím definitely going to batten down the hatches until Jamie Peacock comes back because heís our only hope in the season of shame that weíre facing right now. I have seen some performances in his absences that are more worthy of a tag rugby league tournament than a Superleague match. My blood is still boiling from the absurdity of some of the passes that get thrown about by those wearing Blue and Amber these days. Our displays at the moment can be best described as a rollicking disgrace. But like many stone faced fans, I am not amused. Iím up in arms and absolutely raging.

This exhibition of insalubrity by the Rhinos should hopefully come to an abrupt end, and sooner rather than later. The only hope that I have now is the return of Jamie Peacock who will hopefully lead by example and show this Leeds side what is needed. Heís someone who understands that the game lasts for 80 minutes and isnít a happy-go-lucky affair that the Rhinos are current playing at. You will not see him throwing reckless passes when they are not needed. Heíll get his head down and play the game for all it's worth by respecting the possession.

Last yearís challenge cup semi-final really epitomises what type of player Jamie Peacock is. His sheer determination saw Leeds beat Wigan by a whisker in order to get to the challenge cup final. This is what we have lacked in his unfortunate absence. Leeds have got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter because Jamie Peacock is coming back soon.

Like anybody, I would like to see a long successful season. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want Jamie Peacock to come back and do Leeds Rhinos will. And play like I saw him play against Wigan in last yearís challenge cup semi-final. And I've looked back at that game. And I've seen a player who will get us back to the promise land.

And so I'm happy, tonight.
I'm not worried about anything.
I'm not fearing any Superleague team,
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the return of Jamie Peacock.

PS - thanks to RLPhotos for that final picture!
