The Damo Bit - 8th November 2010
Posted by southstander on November 08 2010 - 15:59:33

by DAMO-LEEDS

Still sweating out his four nations fever, this week our Damo regrets the way that Leeds reacted the last time we hosted the final and proposes a way of making it a far better prospect next time.

Will you agree?

Read more here....

Last year we saw the four nations final played at Elland Road in front of 31,042 fans which, in my opinion, is pretty poor showing for an international final. As a city we have really shot ourselves in the foot when it comes to showcasing both rugby league and Leeds when this final has been hosted here. It just seems that when this final has come to Leeds, we’ve left it to the hardcore rugby league fans to enjoy it whilst the rest of the city is oblivious that we have a competition between the best rugby league sides in the world.

So next time this prestigious event comes to town lets really make sure that its not just a celebration of rugby league, but a celebration of Leeds. Every single venue in the city should have rugby league themed decorations on them for the whole weekend, just like Blackpool lights are on all winter. Everyone who has a Leeds birth certificate should be allowed in any venue for free for the weekend. This would be a good chance for the wealthy of this city to thank the poor for sticking around in Leeds despite their opportunities being low. It’ll be a good chance to bring people together of all classes.

Students often get demonised for leaving a massive mess in this city. Well this is they chance to leave a real mess because this weekend will be the best 'people' weekend in the world where we appreciate anyone who is on the right side of the law. The whole aim of the weekend should be to come together and have fun whilst embracing the rugby league final that’s going on at the other end of the city.

Those who no longer bother going into the middle of Leeds for a night out because they feel that they too old, can roll back the years and come back out because its your legacy that makes Leeds what it is today. We’ll fit all we can into this weekend and make it a right celebration to end all celebrations.

We Have Leeds Festival that attracts 60,000+ and around the same for Party In The Park as well. A weekend to celebrate Leeds and rugby league could attract record numbers to our city if we do it right. Hopefully tickets for the four nations final in Leeds will become as sought after as the FIFA world cup final tickets.

Lets do it for rugby league.

Lets do it for Leeds.
