RFL Show Their True Colours
Posted by southstander on September 14 2010 - 12:04:35

Only Leeds
When the RFL match panel reviewed the match tape from sunday night they must have been rubbing their hands with glee at the opportunity that was laid before them.

There has been a long legacy of the disciplinary going light on Wigan, which has its foundation in the Maurice Lindsay days.

Yesterday they reverted to type, Wigan can do no wrong.

Read more here....

A player from the Champions had accidentally spun a Wigan player in what they have considered was a dangerous tackle. Danny Buderus, one of the most influential Leeds players, has been cited and called to appear before the disciplinary tonight, bizarrely the only one from sundays rip-roaring game.

Buderus has been charged with a Grade A offence (maximum of one game suspension) in relation to a dangerous tackle on Wigan prop Paul Prescott which occurred on the half hour mark. There was little in it, it seemed a momentum led spin, and while a penalty was the correct decision it is difficult to see why Buderus has been called before the committee. Will they stop at nothing to ensure Wigan get to the Grand Final at the second time of asking?

While Leeds fans would have been disappointed in Buderus getting called alongside a couple of Wiganers, they are dismayed that the RFL disciplinary, in their wisdom, have let two players from their 'favourite' team walk away free of a trip to Red Hall.

Just before half-time, the most penalised player in rugby league, Joel Tomkins kicked Danny McGuire in the chest (a more severe category C-D offence) as he stood up to play the ball near the Wigan line. Referee Alibert saw the incident and awarded the penalty but decided to call it a 'nudge with the knee'. The only reason that Tomkins can have escaped tonights meeting is that the panel want Wigan to beat KR next friday.

In a separate incident on the hour mark Chris Tuson made 'dangerous contact' with Chris Clarkson but as a Wiganer he too has escaped the wrath of the disciplinary commitee.

The RFL disciplinary have issued a clear message. Get involved in a tackle where a players momentus sees them land on their shoulders and you'll have them to answer to, but give a player a good kicking as he stands to play the ball and your are alright with them.

Tonight I expect that Buderus will get a one game ban, simply because he wears Blue & Amber. The RFL disciplinary have shown their true colours. Their colours are Cherry & White.
