The Damo Bit - 6th July 2010
Posted by southstander on July 06 2010 - 13:38:32

There is a reason for the Rhinos continued success in Superleague over the last three seasons. Some would say it is all down to great coaches like Tony Smith and Brian McClennan, some may say it is down to us having a great squad of players who all play for one another.

But not Damo, he's claiming full credit!

This weeks bit is a confessionary about some of the seven wishes I made in return for my soul.

Any rumour youíve heard about me meeting the devil is absolutely true and Iím going to go through the seven wishes I made to enable The Rhinos to have some success. I first met the 'Old Nick' at the end of 2006 after Leeds were kicked out of the play-offs by Warrington Wolves. Knowing that the last two seasons has been terrible bar the World Club Challenge win over Canterbury I wished that things would get better.

The devil (I wonít name names) then gave me a card saying she could do that for me. At first I didnít think anything of it and didnít think itíd be worth selling my soul for a bit of success. Roll on Sunday 6th May 2007 Leeds were losing to Bradford Bulls at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. I couldnít take it anymore especially after defeats to both Catalan and Hull KR already that season, I decided to do a deal with the devil with m y side of the bargain coming in the form of the Jordan Tansey try at the end of the match.

For the first time in a long time it felt good to be a Rhinos fan so I had to do this again. My second deal with the Beelzebub came on October 13th the same year. Leeds were facing a team that have never been defeated in a Superleague Grand Final. I rang Satan up again and she did the business in impeccable style as Leeds beat St Helens 33 - 6.

I did my third deal in the same circumstances the following year on October 4th 2007. No way would Leeds of beaten the mighty St Helens side 24 - 16 if it wasnít for my deal with the one whose number is '666' . St Helens beat us heavily a fortnight before and were the best thing since sliced bread.

Fourth deal I did was last year during the Grand Final. No way would Lee Smith of scored that try against St Helens if it wasnít for my soul selling. The Devil deemed that this try wasnít offside, and not the video referee.

So yes Iím sorry for doing deals with the devil, for personal enjoyment, but I have to admit that it's worth it!
