David Bywaters Player Appraisals - Wolves Away
Posted by southstander on June 30 2010 - 15:27:02

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are David’s thoughts about Sunday’s game at Warrington ;

1Smith8Very solid performance – typical Smith when the back is against the wall he pulls out all the stops. Given he was injured for most of the game his guts really showed through
2Donald8Brilliant take for his try which set the platform for the second half.
3Delaney8Under the radar performance – got through a stack of work in a very unassuming manner
4Senior7Huge defensive effort early doors but out of position for two of the Warrington tries. Rolled back the years with a brilliant body swerve to leave Mathers floundering for his try
5Hall8Like Smith played half the game injured – a testiment to his toughness. Managed to get on the outside of his man once again for his try
6Sinfield9Lead from the front – brilliant place kicking and a superb long range drop goal. Massive tackling stint and a very good link with McGuire – top display
7McGuire8Great delayed pass for Eastwood’s try, fantastic pass for Hall’s try and great finish to his own try – typical Danny performance – just wish he would n’t get tackled ball in hand so much
8Bailey8Lost count of the number of tackles Ryan made in his first stint – huge effort once again
9Buderus9My MOM – the x factor, his running from dummy half was incisive and gave the Rhinos the momentum when they were up against it – really well taken try
10Peacock9For an old fellow on a very hot day his stats must be impressive. The real engine room of the side – hopefully his desire will rub off on to the younger players
11Jones Buchanan8One of his best performances for some time, kept his discipline in check and put in a big tackling stint when the Rhinos were up against it
12Eastwood9I will be amazed if Greg isn’t the best overseas player in SL this season – great try, a couple of telling breaks and some massive hits – very close to my MOM
13Ablett8A bit like Delaney, not spectacular just a very solid defensive display
14McShane7Made the very most of his limited game time, superb break and offload to McGuire for his try. Hopefully McClennan will reward this with selection against Saints
15Ambler7Enthusiastic – always looks like he his enjoying the challenge and always gives it 100% - limited game time but seldom lets the side down – Sunday was no exception
16Pitts7did not look out of place once he got to the pace of the game – versatile player who gives the side some options when he is on the bench
17Kirke7I appreciate McClennan was short on options but I am struggling to see what Ian is bringing to the side that is greater than the benefit that could be gained by blooding a younger player
