The Damo Bit - 21st January 2010
Posted by Number 2 on January 20 2010 - 21:25:25

It's what you've all been waiting for!

New for 2010 we bring you sensational columnist of the year Damo with our new feature 'The Damo Bit'. Our resident message board sensation, and YouTube star, has agreed to impart his pearls of wisdom with a weekly column as his beloved Rhinos look to make it four consecutive Superleague titles.

This week Damo urges you all to get behind a special group of Rhinos fans.

Read it here...

Last year we had the wonderful Project A that was formed by Amy Burrow, Lauren Green, Laura Henderson and Lucy Graham. This Awesome Foursome did a brilliant job of being a shining light, for both the city and the Rhinos, on the British show The X Factor. The best thing that could come out of all this is for Laura Henderson to arrange a dance off between Oli Murs and Ronnie The Rhino!

This year we have the equally exciting LS6 formed by Lee, Chris, Christian, Jordan, Danny and Southstanderís very own favourite ginger son Lawrie. These lads over the years have left people with a tear in their eyes thanks to their angelic voices and set to do the same in their auditions for the X Factor 2010.

However, it's not just their singing efforts on the terraces of the three in a row champions that will leave you with a tear in your eyes. Last year four LS6 members in Jordan, Christian, Danny and Lawrie walked from Headingley Carnegie Stadium to Belle Vue in Wakefield to raise money for the RFL Benevolent Fund that helps injured players. The lads raised a lot of money that day, a feat which makes me proud to be a Rhinos fan.

If the club has ever asked for help to get the snow off the pitch then no doubt a few of the LS6 singers have lent a hand in over the years just so we can watch our local super heroes play rugby league. One of them has even kept the crowds safe by being a steward at home matches in the past. Another has decorated Headingley Carnegie stadium with picturesque flags giving the Southstand its match day mascara.

LS6 in my opinion should be the official face of friendly Rhinos fans. This is a group of people who genuinely love the Rhinos and have done for years. Not an away match has gone by when I havenít at least seen an handful of LS6 members representing the Rhinos in the best possible light. LS6 shouldnít just be confined to the terraces. A place awaits for them on the Headingley Carnegie turf before every match to get the crowd going - as if they donít already but this would make it easier. These lads set a good example week in, week out and it should be celebrated.

Rhinos take note and good luck to LS6 in the X Factor later on this year!
