Tad Rhinos Superleague XIV Preview - GF Semis

Old Trafford awaits two sides from this weekends Grand Final Semi-Finals.

Leeds chose the Catalans Dragons as their Headingley visitors but it was more about sending a resurgent Wigan Warrios to beat up a Saints side on a downward spiral.

What a sensational couple of games of rugby we have to look forward to.

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in Super League XIV, the semi-finals;

The Rhinos picked the Dragons as there opponents and, rent-a-quote Schoey apart, it was an obvious choice. The Dragons have condensed play and tackled hard in the play-offs but against Wakefield, the two times that the Wildcats went wide, they scored with ease. The Giants attacked down the middle for 80 minutes and played into the Dragaons hands. They were as ineffective as loz on a date.

In both games the dragons kicked after four, three or even two tackles and looked to defend in there opponents 20m. If they do that against Leeds the Rhinos will get 40 points. Leeds always seem to attack the Catalans down the fringes and with big Ali, Senior, and the rest in sparkling form it would be hard to go against a Leeds win. I fancy Leeds to go out and try to send a message to the other teams and with the Dragons almost certain to tire in the last 20, if Leeds are patient, show composure and build pressure I fancy a hard fought but decent Leeds victory.

Both these sides have flattered to decieve in the play-offs. The team once known as 'The Entertainers' were solid in defence against the Giants but again were poor in attack. The amount of ball they had in the Giants 30m zone should have seen them hammer there opponents. Wigan have beaten the Tigers and HKR to get this far. They were appalling against the Tigers but were the better of two awful teams that night. Against Rovers they battled well, were patient and composed, but against a Rovers team who didn't turn up most teams would have won the game.

Quite simply both teams need to improve dramatically and the fact it's a local derby should ensure this happens. The game will be decided, for me, if Wigan can defend well and keep Saints in there own half. Eastmond apart Saints are a slow side and are unlikely to score many from distance. If Wigan can do this and take there chances then they could easily win this. There are so many 'ifs' about Saints. Will the rest of their pack match the efforts of Graham and Puletua? Will Pryce and Long finally hit form? This is a tough one to call and could go either way, but I'm going for Saints to nick it in a classic.
