Tad Rhinos Superleague XIV Preview - Round 19

Can we really be at game nineteen? The season feels like it only started a few weeks ago.

This week sees the Rhinos travel to the woeful Hull FC, a strategically placed banana skin if I ever saw one. While Saints travel to Salford, KR are off to the south of France and the Giants entertain the Wildcats.

It's an interesting weekend in prospect.

Read more here....

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in Super League XIV, Round 19;

REDS v. SAINTS

Salford have had a pretty decent first season and some good signings in the backs will see them improve even more next season. Saints, although more consistent than Leeds, have plodded on without really hitting the heights they are capable of. This could be a cracker and closer than many think but Saints should come away with the points.

WARRIORS v. 'QUINS

Wigan played pretty well last week at Rovers and will be looking to back up this week. That's where the problem lies. Consistency. If the Warriors want to move up the table they will need to win this one. It won't be easy as the 'Quins are like their coach. Tough, not much flair, uncompromising and will battle to the death. A close game in prospect and a 'Quins win wouldn't be a shock, however I think Wigan will just nick it.

DRAGONS v. KR

The Dragons battled well at Cas but were helped by a referee who couldn't spot a high tackle if it kicked him in the nuts. However, much as the Dragons were average last week, credit to them for hanging in until the end. Rovers bubble has really begun to leak, even if it is not quite burst. There is no way, in my view, the second half of the season will match their first. In fact I can see them dropping to 5th or even 6th. They need to get back to basics and tough games out. I can't see them starting this week however.

CRUSADERS v. WOLVES

The Crusaders have a creditable season so far but are fast running out of players. With several long term injuries to key personnel the remaining games will be very tough. Wolves, by all accounts, were poor against Hull but had enough to take the points. They will have far to much pace and guile for Celtic and it will be another win for Tony Smiths boys.

FC v. RHINOS

Hull have been abysmal this season. Shocking powder puff defence combined with no structure in attack has seen the fans get on Agars back. That said, there is nothing like a visit from leeds to get the natives excited. Leeds were pretty good in parts against the Bulls but should have killed the game off in the first half. If leeds can get a good start and points on the board a win should be theirs for the taking. If Hull can edge in front they will be fired up and it will make for a hard afternoon for the Rhinos. Leeds should have to much pace and class for the black and whites though.

BULLS v. TIGERS

The Bulls put in their best display of the season at Leeds last week and their, dwindling, band of fans must feel cheated as this display has rarely been seen this season. I think they put so much in to this game they could struggle against a Cas side who will have a point to prove after throwing away the game last week. If Cas can get a good start I have a feeling they will come away with the points.

GIANTS v. WILDCATS

The Giants got back to winning ways at Salford last week while the Wildcats stumbled to a home win against the 'Quins. The Cats seem to have got over their blip and have got back to winning ways lately. Just as an aside with Danny Sculthorpe going back to his former club whats the odds on him getting a card? I'd better ask Mick Gledhill! A decent game in prospect but I'm going for home advantage to see the Giants through.
