Buderus Touches Down With Bad News
Posted by southstander on December 10 2008 - 20:48:45

Here Not Now

Whilst Danny Buderus, Rhinos number nine for 2009, has touched down at Headingley, it could be a long while until we see him wearing a Leeds kit for anything other than photo shoots.

After suffering a bicep injury at the end of last season whilst playing for Newcastle Knights, the new Rhinos star could well miss the opening to the season and then not be back at full fitness until some way in.

Read more here....

The former Australian captain, now on a two year contract at Headingley, will surely be targetting the World Club Challenge match against Manly Sea Eagles for his return but Bluey and most Leeds fans will be hoping that he makes it into the seventeen before then.

It seems that the hooker has already ruled himself out of the season opener against the Celtic Dragons and the first round (proper) game against Wakefield Wildcats as he is now just half way through a six month re-habilitation after major surgery.

Buderus has been in the country since last weekend and was introduced to the media at Headingley today, before commencing light training with the non-World Cup squad members next week.

What remains to be seen, and is getting a lot of speculation, is how will Bluey play the thirty-year-old newcomer. Diskin, who will start the season in the hooking role, will be disappointed to have lost the number nine shirt that he has held for almost a decade and will look to use the opening games to prove his claim. It is, however, likely that Leeds will play a two hooker game with Buderus and Diskin each taking turns through a game. Don't be at all surprised that when Danny is back to full fitness that he and Matt spend a lot of time on the pitch together.

One thing is for sure, it gives us an interesting new angle.
